Gerbera L. is a genus of plants in the Asteraceae (daisy family). Gerbera is native to tropical regions of South America, Africa and Asia; also commonly known as the African daisy. Gerbera species bear a large capitulum with striking, two-lipped ray florets in many different colours. The capitulum, which has the appearance of a single flower, is actually composed of hundreds of individual flowers. They vary greatly in shape and size. Colours include white, yellow, orange, red, and pink. The centre of the flower is sometimes black. Often the same flower can have petals of several different colours. Gerbera is very popular and widely used as a decorative garden plant or as cut flowers. Thousands of cultivars exist like Gerbera magnum . We obtained healthy and diseased samples of Gerbera leaves from Dr. Sachin Chavan, Project Leader, Hitech Floriculture Department, Agriculture College, Shivajinagar Pune. Some images of healthy and diseased samples of Gerbera leaves observed under Foldscope.
5-6 types of different fungi were isolated from diseased Gerbera leaf section.
Type 1: a) Fungal growth as observed on potato dextrose agar; b) sporangium observed under foldscope; c) fungal spores observed under 40X lens of light microscope
Type 2: a) Fungal spores observed under Foldscope; b) spores observed under 40X lens of light microscope Created with GIMP
