I was curious about living things in my room, but I figured the E. coli art would be a bad idea to take out of the seal and I wasn’t sure how to suspend dust and dirt samples from surfaces. I tried looking at a cross-section of stem from my orchid to see why the top wasn’t able to transport water and the bottom was (below a particular growth segment), but the dried stem was too hard to cut and light wasn’t able to travel through the bit I put in the scope. Instead, I cut the tip off a succulent. I didn’t see the cross-section, but I could see ridges in the sides that may help protect from sunlight (like spines on cacti). I think I also saw air bubbles on the edges of the sample which was unexpected - maybe this was a reaction catalyzed by air exposure.
