Diffusion of scientific and discoveries and innovations constitute one of the most important processes for the massification of these for all communities worldwide. It is for this reason that it results very fascinating to generate an integration of knowledge and ideas around objects that could facilitate a better understanding of our environment.

 When mentioning the fascinating world at which Foldscope bring us, the imagination and the ideas of everyone who for the first time can use it, and everything they can imagine around their infinite uses and applications, result useful and incredible for us, and certainly also for future communities. This is what happened the last Friday of June in the Faculty of Public Health and Administration of UPCH. I am sure that all the participants in this event understood how important the Foldscope is, and will be, for the global public health.

 Although it is still under revision, the article that will start the development, application and evaluation of Foldscope as a medical diagnosis device applied to the cervical cancer diagnosis, we principally believe that sharing our results and problems can benefit all the participating people.

Foldscope at Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia

The Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos is the most Antique University in America, where diverse events in the history of science and technology in Peru have aroused.  “
 
 Sanmarquinos
 
 ”, as they are usually called, have contributed and continue contributing to all aspects of the scientific development in Peru and the world.
 
 
 Medical Sciences represent one of the most important interests of this university, and it is precisely where great achievements in benefit of communities have been developed. During June’s last week, the Foldscope was presented in the auditorium of the campus with great expectation causing the amusement of students, professors and investigators.

 On its presentation a conference was presented about What it is?, how was it created?, what is it used for?, what can it serve in the future? Which are its limitations? How does it benefit world public health?, to which students and professors formulated questions with disbelief about the marvelous features of Foldscope; until they knew it.

 Later, during the demonstration in the laboratories of “Instituto de Medicina Tropical Daniel Alcides Carrión”, all the participants could ensemble and observe different samples with different magnifications. They observed the benefits of Foldscope.

 Then, ideas emerged for its application, modification and benefits that go from undergraduate and graduate education to research. Likewise, the possibility of its application in health campaigns (which are not usually done because of a lack of budget, or tools, or the difficulties for transporting such material) that will benefit the communities that needs it most.

 This is how we are taking Foldscope to the principal science academic centers, so that the scientific collectivity can know and modify their realities, in benefit of the global public health.

Foldscope in the Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos

During the last week of the semester the Foldscope presentation was held at the National University Federico Villarreal.  It was a multitudinal presentation where all students met, observing and learning about the benefits of Foldscope. This institution with more than 50 years of creation and is one of the most influential in Latin America.

 It was necessary to travel to the former Faculty of Natural Sciences and Mathematics, located east of Lima, PER.,they visited classroom by classroom to finish in a massive conference in the auditorium of the University. In the images shown the practical presentation of the educational tool in the halls of plant ecophysiology.

 For this practice extended pollen were evaluated with conventional optical microscope and the Foldscope. It was exciting surprise of all participants, all teachers and all friends noticing better quality in recognizing pollens, of different size and shape, with the Foldscope; with this tool you can not only recognize, but it could videotape and photograph automatically and live what they observed.

 Thanks to these events was that the directors of the university, like other institutions, are very interested in including the Foldscope as an educational tool for undergraduate, graduate and education campaigns in schools and health centers.
