 Total of 17 officials from different districts were trained on the assembly and demonstrated how foldscope may be utilised during large grainage seasons date on 31st October 2018. Main motive of our work is to popularise foldscope among the local farmers of Assam so that the quality production in muga silkworm seed production areas increases from the root level. Training the technical staffs of sericulture board will help in this concern as they are in regular contact with the farmers of their districts of Assam.

 A batch of 63 Sericulture farmers of Khowang district, Dibrugarh Assam India were trained under DBT funded project on foldscope assembly and how to use  it for detection of diseases in silkmoth and its eggs. (i.e mother moth examination).
</p>
<p>
 We tried to have an interactive session on difficulties faced while rearing and disease control,thus  how foldscope may give a ray of hope in this regard.
</p>
<p>
 At the end of the session the farmers were distributed with foldscope kits and materials required for mother moth examination for using them while sericulture farming with a positive hope.

 A Batch of 54 Students of Chemistry , Botany and Zoology from Kaziranga University and Jorhat Kendriya Mahavidyalaya respectively and were introduced with Foldscope and its  trial application on sericulture dated on 13th March, 2019 . They were also updated about the other  ongoing on works related to foldscope on microcosmos site all over the world.

 Pebrine is a serious disease in
 <span style="font-size: 1.8rem">
  muga silkworm,
 </span>
 <em style="font-size: 1.8rem">
  Antheraea assamensis
 </em>
 <span style="font-size: 1.8rem">
  and is locally known as “phutuka” by silkworm rearers in Assam.  The disease impacts severely in silkworm cropping seasons leading to 20-30% loss.
 </span>
 <span style="font-size: 1.8rem">
  The disease is caused by
 </span>
 <em style="font-size: 1.8rem">
  Nosema sp. (
 </em>
 <span style="font-size: 1.8rem">
  microsporadia)  and
 </span>
 <span style="font-size: 1.8rem">
  is vertically transmitted from the mother moth to eggs.  Detection of pebrine spores  is an utmost prerequisite for quality seed production and is the basis of muga sericulture in Assam. Typically light microscopy based technique is utilized in farmers field or in large silkworm grainages for producing disease free layings (DFLs). In this process the adult mother moth’s abdomen is crushed in a motor pestle and a smear is prepared for observation of spores under the microscopic field. Subsequently, all layings detected positive by examination of corresponding mother moth are discarded to minimize the transmission of pebrine disease and quality silkworm rearing.
 </span>
 <span style="font-size: 1.8rem">
  In the history of Nosema (Pebrine) Detection, Foldscope breaks the Bottle neck concept.
 </span>
</p>
<p>
 In this project, we are comparing the utility of foldscope microscope with conventional light microscope to see its applicability and usability by farmer’s in quality seed production. This will have significant impact as it is portable and can be easily purchased by farmers at a minimal cost.

 The pigmentation of this morphological structure changes during the development of silkworm larvae (1st through 5th Instar stages). These out growths are called tubercles. They work as sensors for changes in environment related to temperature and humidity.

 Muga mother moth examination is a crucial step for rearing of muga silkworms. Detection of pebrine (Nosema sp.) spores is an utmost prerequisite for quality seed production and is the basis of muga sericulture in Assam. Typically, light microscopy based technique is utilized in farmers field or in large silkworm grainages for producing disease free layings (DFLs). In this process the adult mother moth’s abdomen is crushed in a motor pestle and a smear is prepared for observation of spores under the microscopic field. Subsequently, all layings detected positive by examination of corresponding mother moth are discarded to minimize the transmission of pebrine disease and quality silkworm rearing. Foldscope helps in the similar manneras the light microscope much effectively at low cost. This will have significant impact as it is portable and can be easily purchased by farmers at minimal cost.

 A Demonstration was given to farmers to have knowledge of actual procedure used to examine the pebrine spores, a stringent disease in muga silkworms and many other silkworms found in Assam by using Foldscope microscope.A live comparison between the conventionally used laboratory microscope and Foldscope microscope to explain its benefits over the other. Also the Foldscope assembly is being demonstrated to the Muga Farmers of different districts of Assam.

 To eliminate a rigid disease like pebrine (Nosema assama) in muga silkworms, muga mother moth protocol is an urgent need to be adopted in sericulture practicing areas especially in the remote areas where such practices are skipped due to financial issues. Foldscope can do wonders in this concern. It is cost effective as well as easy to operate comparatively to the conventionally used one.

<p>
 The main objective of our work is to popularize use of foldscope in muga seed producing areas for quality production of disease free laying (DFLs). A batch of muga women farmers were trained regarding the procedure of muga mother moth examination and its importance of producing DFLs. They were also demonstrated the assembly of foldscope and its use over the conventionally used microscope to detect disease in muga mother moth examination.
