As I walked into the classroom with drastic nihilism towards why I was there, I was truly illiterate of the fact that my time during this course would be intriguing beyond my comprehension. We began with a small dance exercise initiated by the teacher, and the second that began, I lost all faith in the course and decided that this course was a complete waste of time and energy (I don't like dancing). But I realised how far away from the truth I was the second the teacher gave us the foldscope 2.0 and taught us how to examine samples. My first sample was a complimentary fern rhizome that came with the set of the foldscope 2.0. Over the course of time that day, I realised that biology, and this course as a whole, was simply brilliant. It was beautiful. The enthusiasm of the teacher motivated us students to an unbelievable extent.
As I looked through the lens of 50x and examined my fern rhizome, I realised how much more there is to nature than just the grime we see on the surface. Beautiful rings of tiny circles, all uneven but still symmetrical, lay in front of me. I was awestruck. I had no understanding of what I saw, yet it was beautiful.
