As part of our genetic and phenotypic variation class, first we extracted DNA from strawberries to let the students see what DNA looks like. We tried looking at the extracted DNA using foldscopes. It would have been great to use a DNA dye, but we didn’t have any with us. This is what we saw:
We then explored differences between students themselves. Students with different hair colors magnified pieces of their hair. Here are images of light and darker brown hair:
