Having seen some jelly like substances in my school campus, I observed it under Foldscope and come to know that it is Nostoc. Nostoc is a genus of cyanobacteria found in various environment. It forms colonies of fillamentous cells covered by gelatinous sheet. During my observation, the heterocysts are found in the fillament . These heterocysts are the typical organ for nitrogen fixation.
