• A Mega “Workshop on Foldscope”, encompassing 55 students from 11 different schools (along with 16 science teachers from the Districts of Thanjavur, Tiruchy and Tiruvarur), was conducted on 28th September 2018. From each school, top 5 students were recommended by the respective Principals of the school, for this program. The total count 71 doesn’t include participating Faculty from IIT-Madras and SASTRA University. • The objective is to create “Foldscope Trainers”, in order to democratize science through low-cost & affordable Foldscope. Each school was given a Foldscope. • The session was convened by Dr. P. Raja, School of Mechanical Engineering, SASTRA Deemed University, Thanjavur. The other speakers are Dr. M. Nalini from Poompuhar College (Autonomous), Dr. S. Balaji from Manipal Institute of Technology, MAHE and Dr. W. Anupma Harshal from Kishinchand Chellaram College. • The program was sponsored by Department of Biotechnology – GoI (under category B: Research Proposals) and SASTRA Deemed University. Few photographs are attached with this mail. Thank you very much for the motivation and support. With best regards, Raja ————— Dr. P. Raja B.E. (Mech Engg.,), M.E.
