1st instar larva (0.5-1mm in size) of ladybird beetle feeding upon Aphis gossypii (cotton aphid).
T he adults as well as larva of aphidophagous ladybird beetle feed extensively upon aphids and are known as their primary predators. One larva may eat about 400 medium sized aphids during its development to pupal stage. An adult may eat about 5000 aphids in its complete lifecycle.
This feature is used in agricultural farms where they are employed as biocontrol agents to keep these aphids in check, which act as serious pests of a variety of crop plants and are known to cause huge loss in agricultural productivity.
