 To make Foldcope friendly with school students, a day workshop was conducted 0n December 26, 2018 at New English Medium School, Lakdi, Tal: Indapur, Dist: Pune.
</p>


<p>
 Foldscope,  a new emerging invention in science and technology field, was open to guests on the occasion of National Conference on 22 and 23 February 2019 at VSBT.
</p>


<p>
 To make awareness of Foldscope, it was presented in 106th Indian Science Congress at LPU, Jalandhar from 3 to 7 January.

 On this occasion the PI and the students of Vidya Pratishthan’s School of Biotechnology, Arts Science and Commerce College interacted with the Warkaris and explained the concept of
 <strong>
  Foldscope – microscope in every pocket
 </strong>
 . The objective for use of Foldscope was to create awareness among the warkaris regarding personal cleanliness and showcase the slides of probable pathogenic microorganisms present in the water. During this drive of Swachhata Abhiyan the PI could reach more than 10,000 people. The warkaris were fascinated and were eager to know more details and use of the Foldscope for varied applications. The PI received many suggestions with respect to the innovative idea of Foldscope assembly and the possibility of popularization of the Foldscope to each and every individual of the society to explore and experience the nature’s beauty.

Outreach for Warkaris

   Science Teachers from the School of Baramati (State Board, Central Board of Secondary Education, and Indian Certificate of Secondary Education

   ) were invited for the one day workshop on Foldscope – assembly and applications. Twenty applicants were grouped in four teams and given the task for assembling the Foldscope. The workshop was presided and guided by Dr. Bharat Shinde, Principal VPASCC. An introductory lecture on basics of Microscopy was delivered by Dr. Mahesh Vedpathak (Co-PI) followed by introduction to foldscope, assembly and use by Dr. Tushar Borse (PI).

   All the participants actively participated for the assembly exercise. The participants also prepared their own slides and observed it by viewing it under the Foldscope they have assembled. The enthusiasm among the participants was huge and they have demanded for two more days workshops for themselves and for the students at their Schools.

Training for Science Teachers

   Popularization of Foldscope as a tool for understanding the beauty of nature was the objective to organize one day awareness workshop for the School students from 5-12

   std. The students were guided for the basics of microscopy, parts of microscope and its use to observe the slides. The curiosity of the students was increased by showing some videos of “life in a water drop” recorded by us. The Foldscope assembly videos by Dr. Prakash  and others from Foldscope website were shown to the students. Live specimen slides were prepared in front of the students and told them to visualize it through the Foldscope and photographed ad videographed on android phones. The sessions were conducted in open ground of the school by making a group of 15 students each.

 Popularization of Foldscope as a tool for understanding the beauty of nature was the objective to organize one day awareness workshop for the School students from 5-12
 <sup>
  th
 </sup>
 std. The students were guided for the basics of microscopy, parts of microscope and its use to observe the slides. The curiosity of the students was increased by showing some videos of “life in a water drop” recorded by us. The Foldscope assembly videos by Dr. Prakash  and others from Foldscope website were shown to the students. Live specimen slides were prepared in front of the students and told them to visualize it through the Foldscope and photographed ad videographed on android phones. The sessions were conducted in open ground of the school by making a group of 15 students each.

 The workshop was conducted by Dr. Tushar Borse (PI); Dr. Mahesh Vedpathak (Co-PI); Project student and Post graduate students of Biotechnology. The team was supported by the Principal and Staff of the School for successful conduction of the workshop.
