today we noticed a hibiscus pollen in our exploring the microcosm module and it was so beautiful. to extract it we just took a bit of tape and gently tapped it 2-3 times in order to get the pollen. We had to remember not to do it too hard or else the entire sack would have come out and that would be useless as the graines would be too close together to notice. After 2-3 taps we had to assume that the pollen had come on the tape and prepare and mount the slide
next we started roaming around the field of slide to locate the pollen. it was fairly easy as pollen was bright yellow and also pretty big. it was round and spiked. i expect it was spiked to get attached to insects which it uses as a mode of propogation. sometimes it was grouped togetehr and sometimes it was seperate
note to always roam the entire field before deciding if there are any pollen grains or not in the slide. we learned about a new method of preparing slides and it was a blast to do so
