Pollen sample (the yellow sphere in the upper image) collected near Millikan pond at Caltech around 6:00 pm. The flower bed can be seen in the bottom photo (captured around 9:00 pm). The sample was obtained by rubbing the anthers of one of the flowers against the glass slide until a noticeable amount of pollen was collected. Some questions I have about this sample are 1. How does the orange-yellow color of the pollen impact the reproduction of the plant? 2. How does the shape of the pollen impact the reproduction of the plant? Key to answering both of these questions is determining what insects the geranium plant interacts with for reproduction which could be observed over time. Additionally, the aerodynamic properties of the given pollen shape could be analyzed as better ability to be carried by wind would potentially be helpful for the geranium plant. #caltechbi1
