I am a faculty at Stanford and run the Prakash Lab at Department of Bioengineering at Stanford University. Foldscope community is at the heart of our Frugal Science movement - and I can not tell you how proud I am of this community and grassroots movement. We have put a lot of effort in the redesign of the new foldscope kit; to be ultra portable and still provide a large number of tools (20ish) with the microscope – available and ready for you to use. Some time ago, we thought of a pencil box for microscope (since we compare foldscope to pencils all the time). Growing up in India, I had used “geometry box” all my life – and Jim came up with the vision of making something that looks like a pencil box, but for a foldscope.
The new foldscope kit will allow you to carry your foldscope, wherever you go. It’s ultra rugged and I through it in my backpack without thinking. I just got back from a trip to Utah, and here are a few pictures of the box in some remote locations. Will soon be posting data from the field..
We can’t wait to deliver these kits to users around the world..
Cheers
Manu
Ps: in case you are curious what I was doing at this red sand beach, watch a brief “Facebook live” feed from this place and my hunt for cercariae. Itchy stuff!!
