 This is a mold that was growing from a slice of cheddar cheese. Molds growing on soft cheeses such as cheddar are ones that are not safe to eat, unlike those on hard or semi-soft cheeses. It is likely that the mold growing on this cheese was of the

  penicillium
 </em>
 genus, which are fungi typically used for making cheeses, as well as the antibiotic penicillin.
