Copied from other post: Crazy spiky protist! The spiky things are microtubule bundles used to hunt and move! This might be a centrohelid heliozoan, which produce “coats” that help hold their spines; this is the halo-like stuff near the base of the spikes. Interestingly, in centrohelids, their microtubule spines stem from a central structure known as a centroplast. In other heliozoa, this might not be the case. More to learn!
