Another lovely ciliate, known as the “slipper animalcule” in the early days of the microcosmos! Some species of paramecia (not this one, probably) have symbiotic relationships with algae. Interestingly, these little single-celled organisms have been used in aging studies, and support the hypothesis that aging is tied to an accumulation of DNA damage.
