A beautiful algae! Pediastrum is not single-celled, but “coenobial”, meaning it is a colony. Pediastrum colonies can range from a few cells to roughly a hundred! Apparently, fossils of them have been found due to the presence of silica in their shells! They’re pretty common, but amazing to see every time 💚
