With the help of foldscope I have observed the anatomical characters of Rauvolfia serpentina and Acacia caesia stem and also studied the trichome morphology.

Anatomy – 1

Rauvolfia serpentina (L.) Benth.

Rauvolfia serpentina commonly called as snakewood belongs to the family Apocynaceae.

Important characters:

  • Indian snakeroot has been used in traditional Ayurvedic medicine in India, mainly for high blood pressure and mental illness.

Anatomy – 2

Acacia caesia (L.) Willd.

Acacia caesia belongs to the family Mimosaceae and it is commonly called as Black catechu.

Important characters:

  • The anatomical characters was observed using Foldscope research tool.
  • The Foldscope studies revealed the presence of uniseriate glandular hairs, fibres, chambered crystals, vasicentric vessels and fusiform parenchyma cells.
