From January 27 - February 2, Crayola is celebrating Creativity Week . It is a way to introduce creativity to students because, as Crayola states on their website, "when we celebrate their innate creative mindsets, children view the world with wonder. They embrace innovative thinking. They create possibilities" And this is what we aim to do at Foldscope, provide a tool that allows students everywhere to "magnify their curiosity", explore, and discover the amazing world around them.
Day 1 focuses on the book "Just Because" by Matthew McConaughey. I love the way it encourages you to look at things from multiple perspectives. And that is perfect for the microscopic world. Many times things that are tiny or even invisible to the naked eye are deemed unimportant compared to the big things that we can easily see all around us. But as these images reveal, small can equal powerful!
Our youth need fun, positive science experiences today to give them the confidence to explore science fields in the future. And the story of the diatom, single celled algae that collectively product about a third of the planet's oxygen, shows the power and impact that tiny things can have on our lives.
I hope that all of you Foldscopers out there will get inspired by Creativity Week, find some moments to nurture your creativity, and encourage others (including students of all ages!) to get creative with Foldscope microscopes.
