The petals of a marigold are thick. This allows me to do a cast of the petal (using clear nail polish) to see the surface features under my #Foldscope 2.0. Even though they appear smooth, there is a lot of texture that is revealed under 140X magnification. From flowing lines to the bumps that indicate the shapes of the cells, there is so much to explore here!
I also put the actual flower petal on a slide and enjoyed seeing the microscopic color variations that are invisible to the naked eye!
Happy Foldscoping!
