The crepe myrtle tree in my front yard is in full bloom with plentiful pink flowers. I only had to lightly touch a piece of clear tape to the anthers and was rewarded with so many pollen grains on my slide.
These images are taken using the 140X magnification lens with 5X digital zoom on my phone. I observed the pollen using brightfield, darkfield, and reflective lighting.
Next I switched to the 340X magnification lens and took these pictures adding in 5X digital zoom on my phone. I also used brightfield, darkfield, and reflective lighting.
I absolutely love the way the pollen grains look so very different depending on which lighting technique is applied. I have many more flowers to try and get pollen from for observation with my Foldscope 2.0. Stay tuned!
