I make it a goal of mine to search for tardigrades in all of the places I travel to. This summer my family took a trip to Scotland to hike the West Highland Way. While hiking I would stop along the way to search for moss samples where I thought I could find some tardigrades.
At one of our stops (the Bridge of Orchy Hotel), I went out to the river and gathered a bit of moss, lichen, and river water and proceeded to begin the tardigrade hunt!
I found this guy swimming around on the third slide I made. These videos were recorded using the 140X magnification lens plus 3X digital zoom on my phone.
Then I increased the magnification to the 340X lens (again with 3X digital zoom on my phone).
In addition to the tardigrade, I saw this rotifer actively extending its corona and filter feeding on other microbial life on the slide. (140X plus 3X digital zoom)
It is always fun to add new locations to my tardigrade hunting. I can't wait to see what I find on my next trip!
