An FDP at Vellalar College for Women gave us Dr. Shilpa Jain (Director-Muktangan EXploratory, Pune) and myself the opportunity to stay in the campus of Vellalar College for Women (A), Erode, TN.
Our routine included sipping hot coffee and having breakfast at the girls hostel canteen. A chance conversation between us and the girls resulted in meeting over breakfast to hold a Foldscope outreach session in the courtyard of the canteen.
Right under the tree early morning we all met and what ensued was an excitement filled exchange, we started with "எனக்கு தமிழ் தெரியாது" (enaku tamil teriyadu) as we continued to exchange notes.
The girls asked questions, wanted to know more about the way the grass looked, the leaves appeared, the pollen structure and more.
Their excitement knew no bounds when they saw the onion cells, they couldn't believe what they saw and the fact that they made the slides that came out so well, more samples followed.
We mounted the grass palisade and more. They kept calling all their friends to make the observations and surely they had so much to share.
Thanks to Dr. Shilpa who clicked the pictures early in the morning and Dr.Parvathi R. Principal VCW for this beautiful experience.
