Currently studying in the Modern School, ECNCR-Delhi, Vismay Anup is an amateur observer and an aspiring international relations consultant. He loves learning about and studying all sorts of organisms- whether it be microbial or not. Though starting slowly, he is excited to observe as much as possible and learn from other's findings as well. If given free rein, Vismay would be found in one of 6 places: His room, the library, the bookshop, the airport, the zoo and the nearest bio lab.

Hello everyone! This is a continuation of my previous blog.
After observing the fern rhizome, I turned my attention to a sample of an onion peel. I used the Foldscope 2.0 to observe the peel at all three magnification settings. My observations were as follows:

50x
Brick-like ovular cells
Observed droplets of water on the peel as well, leading to white spots.

140x
Faint traces of nuclei are visible near the cell wall
Cells are laid over each other like bricks
Double walls of the cells are observable (Plant cell wall)

The cell wall can now be clearly observed to have two walls
A certain unrecognised wavy organelle was also observed
Cells are packed tightly together.

Problems Faced
1. The first few onion peel samples were too thick and layered - not good samples
2. Orienting oneself with how to observe cell organelles, which are very faint.
3. Focusing on a specific cell and taking a photograph of it simultaneously was quite challenging
