As our experiment for Day 2 for our course, Exploring the Microcosm at Lodha Genius Programme, Ashoka University, we used the Foldscope to look at the skin of a potato under different magnifications of 50x, 140x and 340x. We observed that these cells were very dissimilar and irregularly shaped unlike the onion cells. It also had starch granules present and it was extremely difficult to spot the nucleus. We could easily see the cell wall. I had some difficulties in preparing the sample, as the potato skin was sometimes too thick. The light could not pass through it properly which made it hard to see the sample clearly.
