The image shows a large red mass with many different shades of red. Within the mass, there are many round bright spots. Around the perimeter of the mass, the object is mostly clear and without color and very jagged with spike-looking protrusions coming out at the bottom of the mass.
The sample was prepared by taking a red fruit loop and using the flat side of a finger nail to crush it against a table. The sample was then put on a slide and viewed. The fruit loop was taken from the North house kitchen at 2:12 pm on 5/28/19 at the California Institute of Technology.
