I have decided to study each of the flowers in my Mother's Day bouquet under my Foldscope. The first flower I put under the Foldscope from my Mother’s Day bouquet was a Sweet-William.
The pollen grains were sooooo tiny - it was hard to get a good picture of them. I eventually got these pictures using the 340X magnification lens plus 5X digital zoom on my phone. I took the pictures using brightfield and reflective lighting.
The flower petals were surprisingly spiky! And the spikes were one the edges and surface of the petals. This image was taken using the 140X magnification lens plus 5X digital zoom on my phone.
Using the 340X lens plus 5X digital zoom on my phone, I got a picture of the cells on the flower petal.
The stigma was colorless and covered with what looked like little fingers. These pictures were taken using the 340X magnification lens and 5X digital zoom on my phone.
And last was the leaf of the flower. I chose one of the tiny ones closer to the flower to investigate. Using the 140X lens plus 5X digital zoom on my phone, I was able to get this picture of the plant cells.
Stay tuned for the next flower in the bouquet!
