The image above depicts yellow hibiscus plant pollen obtained from a hibiscus flower outside of Page House, on Caltech’s campus (1200 E. California Blvd, Pasadena, CA). The sample was obtained at 11:00 pm PST on 05/10/2019, by picking a flower from the plant bushes on location. Several stamen were removed from the flower and rubbed with a cotton Q-tip; the resulting pollen sample was mounted onto a clean slide, taped down, and examined under the foldscope.
a) The species of plant that the pollen originated from is Hibiscus Rosa-Sinensis Orange, from the kingdom Plantae. Physically, the flower has a reddish-orange appearance, with yellow oval-like pollen visible at its center. See secondary image below.
