 At approximately 7:30pm on Monday, April 8th, a water sample was acquired from the Caltech turtle pond and brought back to Broad in a small plastic container. The sample was then dispensed onto a glass slide and viewed through a Foldscope. An iPhone camera was used to obtain the above images of the sample.
</p>
<p>
 I looked at a few different samples (taken from different areas of the pond, at approximately the same time,) and did not find anything moving in any of them. This combined with the fact that the specs I saw were all fairly opaque leads me to believe that sadly, I only saw dirt. To confirm this, it would be worth examining the sample more closely under a more powerful microscope, and looking at it for a longer period of time in hope of seeing some movement.

 A flower was picked from the plant pictured above at approximately 3am on Friday, May 31st. The plant resides in the Athenaeum parking lot, on Caltech’s campus. After picking the flower, we rubbed it’s anthers against a clean glass slide until a signifiant amount of pollen had accumulated. A clean cover slip was placed over the slide and the slide was put into the Foldscope. A phone flashlight served as our external light source. The specs in the first two photos are most likely grains of pollen. #caltechbi1

 This sample was obtained at approximately 1am on Friday, May 31st, in Blacker Dining Hall. I took a bottle of a friends body glitter and placed a drop onto a slide, followed by a cover slip. I placed this into the Foldscope and used a phone flashlight for light. In the first image one can make out individual flecks of glitter, and the fact that they are gold. #caltechbi1

 The first image in this post depicts part of the anther of a small yellow  flower found in the parking lot of Caltech’s Athenaeum. The flower was picked around 3am on Friday, May 31st. A clean cover slip was placed over the sample on the slide and the slide was put into the Foldscope. A phone flashlight served as our external light source. #caltechbi1

 This image shows the fuzz on the underside of a lavender petal. The little hairs can clearly be made out. This sample of lavender was collected at around 3am on Friday, May 31st from a cluster of plants just North of Caltech’s Chandler Cafe. A piece of the plant was picked off, and a few petals were placed on a glass slide, covered with a cover slip, and the whole thing was then viewed through a Foldscope with a phone flashlight as an external light source. #caltechbi1

 This photo shows a flake of dandruff from the scalp of a friend. It was obtained at approximately 5pm on Friday, May31st, and gently placed on a clean slide and covered by a cover slip. It was then viewed with a Foldscope, and a phone flashlight was used as an external lightsource. You can roughly make out the flakey texture of the dead skin.
