The prop roots of Ficus elastica (rubber tree) are trained over 15-20 years to form the natural living bridge to cross rivers and streams found in Meghalaya. The bridges grow to approximately 50 to 100 feet long and have strong and deep interwoven prop roots providing a boat-shaped foothold.
A workshop on Foldscope has been organized by Department of Environmental Science, University of Calcutta at the Mawkyrnot village, Meghalaya, India on 17th March 2019.
Introductory Session-
A brief introduction on foldscope, was given to the participants.

The inflorescence of Ficus elastica was collected and with the help of a new blade, thin sections of the hypanthodium, was done and mounted on the slide.
Observation under Foldscope-
The prepared slides were observed under foldscope.

This was the first ever exposure of the local people to foldscope. It was very successful.
