What does Milton Avery have to do with my slides?

Thoughts of a 6-year-old: Today mommy sat me down with a book of American Modernest artworks. She asked me to flip through and choose a picture that resonated with me. After asking what resonated meant, I got to work. I found a very pretty picture. Mommy asked me: “What drew me to the picture?” Here is what I told her:

1) You could not really see what it was but when you stopped to look, you could see it was something inside of something else. It interested me.

2) Thinking about yesterday’s studies it did not seem like a portrait, illustration or landscape and it did not seem like an abstract. And I liked that.

3) It reminded me of the beach with rocks and shore and water. It was kind of like the beach in the movie Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.

Here is my drawing of the artwork I was observing:

Here is what mommy told me about the artwork after I told her what I thought. The art is called “Sunset” by artist Milton Avery. He made it in 1952. It depicts a sea scape – one of his favorite subject matters. She said he like to take the real and abstract it by use of simplified irregular shapes. This is a link to the artwork.

So mommy asked me which of my slides reminded me of his work. My leaf slides were the closest match. Here is the original post.

The shapes of this cropped leaf slide reminded me of “Sunset” the most:

Mommy asked me to draw the cropped leaf slide. Here is my sketch:
