As it was a day long exploration we had many highs and lows, but the pulse at the class was ye dil maange more (the heart asks for more).
This was a pollen grain that was very different from the Hibiscus and that of the Sunflower that we had observed, the collage helped the kids remember the tree, the flower and its pollen, just a way to put their observations together.
For the first time I saw this pollen looked rounded but can be called cuboid, it was transparent and felt as if it was really delicate.
Next we looked at a leaf that we plucked from the garden at Loyola, PU (Manvi, Raichur) using the foldscope. The leaf seemed to be covered in some fibre both on the ventral and dorsal sides.
A look at the same revealed several hair like structures in large numbers, the hair while appearing soft fibre like had a bladed sharp structure as if it functions for some form of protection. Seen here is a view of the leaf and its fibre structure, hoping to learn more about this by reading further.
Stay tuned for more updates from our Foldscope workshop as we design an enquiry! #Foldscope #Microscopy #STEMeducation #StJosephsUniversity #learningisfun #engagement
Thanks to all the student mentors and the educators at St. Josephs University specially Dr.Mitra Madappa for this wonderful engagement.
