Tucked away between the mountains nests a small village with just 53 homes in the tehsil of Drass. The road leading to it and away from it leaves one wondering of how people manage their journey in the midst of nowhere and so much to look forward to by facilitating education.
Houses built of rock and mud that withstand tough weather is a mark of resilience itself, we reached here thanks to Mahima Mehra of Himalayan Volunteer Tourism Foundation under their Shikshan abhiyan.
We built the Foldscope 1.0 together to understand what it means to think beyond the boundaries of syllabus, to wonder how an 8 gm frugal science tool could help the kids traverse to a different world all together. Facilitated by their teachers it was an engrossing session where the kids quizzed us with so many questions.
In the dim light they wondered if they would see anything but their excitement had no bounds when they saw the cells, made paper slides, mounted samples and more.
Together the team at HVTF and Humas Upliftment Organisation (NGO) founded by Altaf Hussain and Murtaza Ali are serving the community in the field of education.
